Then What?

Lion of Judah

After you have faced the toughest days of your life how are you changed?  When something has really hurt you and you don’t know how to deal with it the thing NOT to do is to sit in the situation.  If you sit down in your distress you will find things start “cluttering” around you.  Things will clutter around you pushing you deeper and deeper into a pit.  If you sit in the situation you will suddenly find yourself in a deep hole with high smooth walls and unless someone drops you a rope there is no getting from your situation.  People are self-involved and rarely look to help others out of their troubles.  People have gotten to where they love things and use people instead of loving people and using things.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 New International Version (NIV)

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

This scripture has never been more true than it is today.  People are forever reaching for more “stuff” and more “stuff”.  The truth of the matter is none of the “stuff” they attain and love will never love them in return.  The 60,000 dollar Hummer you promised your life away for over the next 7 years does not care that you had to promise your future wealth and wellbeing away so it can sit in your driveway.  If someone steals it tomorrow it doesn’t care it is sitting in someone else’s yard.  Let me ask you this, after you get the “stuff” you want THEN WHAT?  You get an education…  THEN WHAT?  You get married and have children… THEN WHAT?  You must be aware someday you will die… THEN WHAT???

Scripture says in Hebrews chapter 9:
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

My real question is, are you waiting for Him?  Every morning when you rise from your sleep do you ask yourself, “is today the day I will see you, Lord?”  Driving on the highways people die in traffic everyday due to no fault of their own.  You may find yourself standing before God before THIS DAY is finished…  THEN WHAT???  Think about it.
