Any of you remember playing hide and seek when you were kids? I do and I remember I always got caught because I wasn’t any good at hiding. Well we are in a time we need to be ready to present ourselves to the one seeking us. There are a lot of people that say it has been a couple of thousand years and He isn’t coming back, if He ever really was. It has been too long. We have to remember God exist outside of time. Scripture tells us in 2nd Peter that with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. Also in 2nd Peter chapter 3 verses 10-13 it says:
2 Peter 3:10-13 (New International Version, ©2010)
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
Scripture tells us it will be as in the days of Noah, people getting married and just living life not paying attention to the signs of the times when the Lord returns. Scripture tells us also that two will be working in the fields; one will be taken and the other left. Being a good person is nice for others but it won’t get you to God. Giving to charity is nice and helps many people but it won’t get you to God. It is in God’s own plan to reconcile people back to God and ALL we HAVE to do is accept the free GIFT. How do we accept this gift? God has made it so simple you can’t go wrong. Believe God, realize each person was born a sinner and accept God’s perfect sacrifice for salvation. The word of God says there can be no remission of sin without the shedding of blood. Jesus obeyed and allowed His blood to be shed providing the sacrifice God prepared for the redemption of mankind back to God. This sacrifice allows us to once again feel free to “walk in the cool of the day in the garden talking with God”
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
If you ask people if they think they are saved many respond, “I am a good person, better than most.” When he or she stands in front of the pure and holy God and he or she is asked, “Did you accept my gift of salvation?”, then they will drop their eyes and say, “No, but I was a good person.” “Depart from me for I never knew you”, are the words to they will hear. Men are especially guilty of thinking they have to DO something to be saved, but the price has been paid; the bill will never come due as long as you have had your sin debt validated by accepting the free gift provided by our Father. When we stand in the pure light of God’s glory then all of what we lack will come to our mind BUT God will see that ONLY if you have not accepted the perfect Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. Just as in the Passover the Christ brushes on the door posts of our hearts the sacrificial blood that allows us to live like the first born of Israel.
In scripture there is a word that is used about 4 or 5 times that most people don’t have a good clear understanding of. It is “propitiation”. This word is used most of the time concerning the mercy seat between the wings of the cherubim on the ark of the covenant. In the ark of the covenant was the law and it was believed the spirit of God hovered over the wings of the cherubim looking down at the law judging the people. Once a year the high priest would go into the Holy of Holies with a basin of blood from a sacrificed animal to sprinkle it on the mercy seat between the wings of the cherubim which would cover the sins of the people for another year. That was the propitiation for the sins of the people so when God looked down between the wings of the cherubim God saw the blood of the sacrifice and not the accusation of the law. When Jesus laid down His life as a willing sacrifice for the redemption of mankind, He was the propitiation for our sins once and for all. There is no other sacrifice that we need or can do. Actually if we try to earn our salvation, we are trying to make the sacrifice of Jesus of no effect.
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark;
I can just see Jesus leaning against an oak tree counting then He says, Ready or not, here I come… The only problem is, it isn’t a game!
